CAREER INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE

Why should I participate in an internship?

Many students graduate high school with no idea of what career they may want to pursue, but by completing an internship, they begin to get acquainted early with some of the career opportunities that are available. Many times students identify early what careers they don’t want to do and that information can be just as valuable when

learning about career options.

What will I be doing?

  • Students are placed in an internship position that relates to his/her specific career interest (everything from architecture to zoology) during the block schedule days.

  • The teacher and workplace mentor take an active role in facilitating the students internship experience.

  • A seminar is held each Monday during class that focuses on workplace readiness skills and serves to enhance the students internship.

  • Attendance at this seminar is mandatory and includes related projects and presentations.

The career internship class, in conjunction with local industry partners, provides high school students with valuable industry specific job skills by placing them in real world learning environments in identified career pathways.
